The Weyburn Public Library (WPL) is holding another book sale and looking for donations of books, auction items, and time. The event being held on November 14th to 16th will host the book sale alongside a Christmas auction. WPL Branch Manager Dawn Silver says they’re accepting a variety of items.
“If you've got any Christmas things that you may not want anymore, or maybe you bought an extra set of whatever to go on the tree, bring them in and we'll put them for our auction.”
She says the idea was borrowed from the library in Estevan and has proven to be a hit.
“We raised a very good amount last year. It was about $1,200 with the art auction and it was the first time we did it. We borrowed the idea from Estevan with their great blessings and we had some beautiful pieces. I've got some in my office and I took some home myself and people were so generous and so thoughtful. We decided that we would kick off the holiday season with a little Christmas themed auction. It's a silent auction and we'll have it up online.”
They’re also seeking volunteers to help run the event. Silver explains duties include keeping shelves tidy during the same, processing transactions, and interacting with the shoppers.
Silver expresses her appreciation for the event and its impact on the library.
“It's one of our major fundraisers. We run two of these a year and it is the backbone of our fundraising. Everyone calls and phones and asks about it and when they can bring stuff in and when they can come and get in. I mean, there was a lineup. We're just looking forward to it again. It's so vibrant and so much fun and the time passes in a heartbeat.”
Donations will be accepted at the library on October 28th for both books and silent auction items. The event will be cash or cheque only.
