Clint Arnason is hoping more voters in Wood River will have their say in the upcoming provincial election.
Arnason in the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan candidate in the riding.
"Get out and vote," Arnason said. "Let's make a difference in this election."
Arnason isn't moved by those concerned his candidacy and the candidacy of other conservatives in this election could split the vote with the Saskatchewan Party and open the door for Saskatchewan NDP candidates.
"Does the Sask Party think they own your vote?" he said. "We have two parties and both of them go back and forth. Having a third or fourth party in there makes a big difference. You have more voices making sure everything is... staying on track."
Arnason has been on Vanguard council for two terms and is a search and rescue volunteer. He decided to run after some growing concerns about infrastructure.
"I just didn't like what's going on in our government," Arnason said. "We need to make sure our buildings we have for healthcare are being well taken care of. I noticed in Gravelbourg the roof was leaking. In Lafleche they had no air conditioning this summer (and) they had to go out and get portables. Stuff like that we have to get better at."
He chose the Progressive Conservative Party in part based on their stance on farm ownership.
"I've just noticed more and more big farms," Arnason said. "They're a party that is looking at farmland first. That's what I believe in, making sure our farmland stays in Saskatchewan and not having outsiders owning our land."
Arnason is running against incumbent Saskatchewan Party MLA David Marit, Todd McIntyre of the Saskatchewan United Party, Melvin Pylypchuk of the Saskatchewan Green Party and Saskatchewan NDP candidate Mike Topola.
Early voting runs through Saturday, while Monday is officially election day in Saskatchewan.
