The official results of Mountain View County's (MVC) by-election have been revealed. Tiffany Nixon has been elected as Division 4 Councillor.
Last week, MVC announced that a total of 349 votes were cast in the By-Election, with the following results:
- Sean LaBrie: 158
- Tiffany Nixon: 191
Division 4 voters had two chances to cast their ballots; advance voting took place at Melvin Hall on October 9 and Bergen Hall on October 10. On October 16, the By-Election Voting Day was held.
The County would like to express its gratitude to both candidates for their commitment to the election process and to all of the voters who cast ballots.
This by-election was necessary because former Councillor Gord Krebs resigned. The newly elected council member will hold office until the October 2025 municipal election.
Division 4 includes the towns of Elkton/Rugby, Westcott, Fallentimber, Bergen, Harmattan, and Westerdale.
Nixon was officially sworn in as a Councillor at Wednesday's organizational meeting.
She wrote to Discover Airdrie that she hopes to bring practical solutions and positive, hard-working leadership to the Council. With a balanced approach to progress and preservation of the community and the way of living that we all hold dear.
"I look forward to representing the residents of Division four and creating opportunities in the county that benefit everyone."
Also at the meeting, Mountain View County re-elected the Reeve and Deputy-Reeve.
Division 5 Councillor Angela Aalbers was re-elected asReeve while Division 1 Councillor Dwayne Fulton was also re-elected as Deputy Reeve.
Earlier this month, Mountain View County awarded the Hadway family the 2024 Farm Family Award.
