The High River Flyers only had one game on their 2024-2025 HJHL schedule this weekend.
The Flyers were in Didsbury on Saturday night (Oct. 26), with the Mountainview Colts edging out High River 3-2 in overtime. The Flyers have come away with at least one point in their last three games and have gone 1-0-2. The win came from a 6-1 victory on the road to the Coaldale Copperheads, and the first overtime loss came to the 9-3-0 Medicine Hat Cubs on October 18.
The first period went scoreless. Haiden Parks broke the score open to start the second period with the Colts up 1-0. Owen Grant tied things up at 1-1 six and a half minutes into the second period, with the helper coming from Tiernan Rowan. Just over a minute later, the Flyers took the lead with a goal from Wout Rehorst. Jonah Thomas picked up the assist on Rehorst's second goal of the season.
The Flyers took the lead into the third period. However, Jay Heistad found the back of the net for the Colts 3:20 into the period and would force overtime.
High River's netminder Kashton Payne kept his team in the game, making 44 saves, and helped them to overtime. Aidan Saunders scored the Colts' winner with his first goal of the season.
The Bob Snodgrass Recreational Complex will finally play host to the Flyers home opener on Friday night (Nov. 1) at 8:15 p.m. when the Rocky Rams head to High River.
Then on Saturday, the Flyers head to Okotoks to face the Bisons with an 8:30 p.m. puck drop.
