Mully Children's Family has been close to the heart of local author Paul Boge since he first visited decades ago.
"I went to MCF for the first time in 2003 to teach physics and math, and Charles Mully asked me to write the story of his life," said Boge. "I almost fell off my chair. It felt like you were interviewing somebody who had just walked out of the book of Acts."
He has been involved ever since, writing five books about Mully Children's Family, including his latest book Transformations.
"It's the story of seven kids," said Boge. "It's their life before they came to Mully Children's Family. How Christ changed their life at Mully Children's Family and how their life is different now that they've left Mully Children's Family."
Boge says all seven children are kids that he got to know while working at MCF, including four who taught when he made his first trip in 2003.
"These are kids that I got to meet and to know. And they were just freshly off the street," said Boge. "It's amazing how Christ can change people's lives.
He says part of the reason he wrote this book was to encourage people who have friends or family they've been praying for for ages to get saved, not to give up.
"Let's keep trusting the Lord for miracles to happen because if Mully can go into slums and rescue kids who are at the absolute bottom of the world, that should encourage us to continue to pray for people in our lives."
All proceeds from Transformations will be donated to Mully Children's Family.
A book launch will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church at 7 p.m.
It will also feature special guest Stella Louku, one of the children featured in the book who will share her testimony in person.
