The Helping Hands Society of Cochrane & Area is hosting a public meeting this week to help the community better understand the purpose and operation of the Free Food Sheds.
Executive Director Laura McDonald says there will not been an agenda, it is a town hall style meeting with the opportunity for an open discussion.
"We are inviting the public to come and share their opinions, their raves, their rants about the Helping Hands Free Food Sheds."
Volunteers rescue food twice a day and stock two Free Food Sheds in Cochrane every day of the year, with the exception of Christmas Day.
The East Shed is located at St. Andrew’s United Church, while the West Shed can be found at Bow Valley Baptist Church.
The main goal in this Sheducation town hall is to offer some clarity in the purpose of the Free Food Sheds says McDonald.
"Not everyone realizes the Free Food Sheds were born out of a desire to reduce waste, specifically food waste. That's the conversation that we want to open up and if we can get more and more people aware of that true purpose of the sheds then hopefully they can help us spread the message."
