Airdrie RCMP has confirmed to DiscoverAirdrie that Mounties received a complaint about a white van in the Reunion neighbourhood of the city on Friday (October 28) just before 2 p.m.

"The RCMP immediately responded, and an investigation was completed, and there is no concern for public safety," wrote Cst. Jennifer Weedmark in an email.

She added that anyone with information concerning the event should contact the Airdrie RCMP.

Last week, a screenshot was shared with several local social media groups, garnering significant attention and worry from some Airdrie parents and residents. The screenshot alleged that just after 1 p.m. on Friday, in the vicinity of Renuion Green and Reunion Terrace, an individual in a white van had stopped and attempted to tell a youth to get in the car.

According to data from the federal government, stranger abductions are rare. In 2022, in Alberta, there were five instances of abduction by a stranger, while nationwide, there were 49.
