Marie Cécile Aubin
March 25, 1928 – October 20, 2024

Marie Cécile Aubin was born on a cold Palm Sunday, March 25, 1928, to Jérémie and Marie (née Carfantan) Aubin, at their home in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan. She was the fifth of six children and attended school in St. Brieux. Coming from a highly musical family, Marie learned to play the piano and was playing the pump organ in church by the age of 13. Many Sunday nights saw most young people in the Aubin home for music and fun. By 1940, all these good friends had enlisted to serve in the war, including Marie’s brothers, Albert and Thomas and her sister, Rose. Marie boarded at the convent in Duck Lake, SK to attend high school and to further her music education. She completed Grade 10 with the Royal Conservatory of Music. In 1947, she joined the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Quebec. She was a music and theory teacher for 21 years. In 1971, she left the Sisters and entered the public work force where she held various jobs. The first ten years in Prince Albert, SK; then Indian Head, SK as a housekeeper in the Orange Home for Children, followed by the Rehab Centre for Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and finally in Fort Qu’Appelle, SK as a housekeeper and babysitter. She retired at age 65. In her retirement, she volunteered as a teacher of English as a second language. Marie also travelled -- to France three times, Washington, DC, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia and a three month visit in Brazil. In her spare time, she knitted, crocheted for Humboldt and Area Guardian Angels Charity, sewed, and volunteered her time as a church organist. She moved to Wolverine Heights in Muenster, SK in 1999 to be closer to her hometown, then moved one last time to Chapman Place in Humboldt, SK where she passed away at age 96. She was predeceased by her parents, Jérémie and Marie Aubin; siblings, Albert (Carmella Martin), Olive (Aloysius Gruending), Rose (Hervé Loiselle), Thomas (Kathleen Astalos) and Sr. Angèle. The Funeral Service was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm, celebrated by Fr. John Abban-Bonsu. Others taking part were: Nestor Trach and Céleste Leray-Leicht, scripture readers; Marie Fagnou, intentions; and Cécile and Ivan Buehler, eulogists. The urnbearer was Paulette Eaket, with honorary pallbearers being “All Who have shared in Marie’s Life”. Inurnment took place at St. Brieux Roman Catholic Cemetery, St. Brieux, SK.
