Infrastructure minister and local MLA is introducing one of the bills hitting the floor of the Legislative Assembly this week.
The fall session of the assembly begins at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon (Oct. 28) and will see the introduction and debate of 13 bills between now and the Christmas break.
Guthrie believes the one of most interest to Albertans are the major revisions to the Alberta Bill of Rights.
The bill introduces new rights for Albertans, such as protections for personal autonomy, including the right not to be given medical care, treatment or a vaccine without consent; the right to acquire, keep and use firearms in accordance with the law; and strengthened property rights.
On behalf of Matt Jones, Jobs, Economy and Trade minister, he's introducing the Early Learning and Childcare Amendment Act.
"It will increase the right of the statutory director, providing them with a little more regulatory abilities to suspend licences or remove licences of childcare facilities in circumstances when there could be a child's safety at risk."
He says the Alberta Statutes Amendment Act will further reduce red tape.
"We're always looking to reduce red tape so at least once per year, sometimes even twice per year in the spring and fall, we have a bill come forward for Service Alberta to reduce red tape."
He says they've already met their goal of reducing of red tape by one-third.
"We have seen that. but we're keeping going and still looking for new opportunities."
It directly impacts his Infrastructure ministry with the introduction of prompt pay.
"We introduced prompt pay for private organizations and now as the government we are also going to adhere to the same rules."
He says people may be interested in the introduction of the All-season Resorts Act that will impact sport and tourism. It's enabling legislation to allow for the development of some resorts on some public land.
Guthrie equates his excitement for the return to session to a time when he was ranching.
"You always look forward to calving, but you also look forward to the end of calving and that's like this. I'm always excited to get started but then you're always wanting to get through it and move on to the next thing."
