As of Saturday, the last "dumpster" puppy was adopted. All five puppies have now found their forever homes.
Near the end of September, the puppies were found in a dumpster by employees at Midtown Barber Shop, they called the RCMP where they were taken to the Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC) Airdrie chapter.
It took over a month to get all the puppies adopted, but APARC is happy they now have their new families.
Maggie Snyder, one of the shelter managers with APARC explained one puppy was returned, but adopted once again shortly afterwards.
"Sometimes, when people adopt puppies, they don't realize what they're getting into. But the last puppy was adopted again on November 9th."
Snyder explained seeing the puppies all get adopted before they turn into adult dogs was key for training purposes and their mental state.
"Being in a shelter or a pound as a puppy is pretty tough because they don't get the mental stimulation, they don't get the attention, they don't get the training like they would in a home."
Snyder went on to talk about how it is a great feeling to see how they changed into healthy dogs since they were in their care.
When asked about what kind of breed they are, APARC explained the best they can do is guess, but believe they might be a lab, shepherd mix of a mix, but would love to know that answer if one of the new dog parents do a test.
"It's such a great feeling to see what they were like when they first came in, to how they were when we last saw them."
