The Dewdney Players from Okotoks is performing a play that will show how difficult it can be to put on a play.
Katie Fournell is the director of their newest play, Noises Off, and says it's quite entertaining.
"I'm the director of Noises Off, which is one of the funniest shows I've ever gotten the chance to see and have wanted to get my hands on it as the director ever since, because it's insane." Fournell explains. "It's basically a farce making fun of a farce."
The play is about a theatre company trying to put on a play and how chaotic it can become.
Fournell adds that the set itself is a huge undertaking.
"We have a two-story set that we are doing that has to turn 180 degrees in the intermission so that the audience watches the show, both from onstage and then watches the show from backstage. It's an absolutely bonkers, hilarious show."
As part of the play, there are 9 different entrances and exits all over the stage, and Fournell says there will be 9 different actors that run on and off the stage through those doors all "Scooby-doo style."
Because the play is about a theatre company trying to put on a play, Fournell says this play is meta.
"Which I kind of love. There are hundreds of moments while we are rehearsing the show where I will be giving a note to an actor, and I'm like, "Oh my god! This is the same note that the director in the play is giving this particular actor and I'm doing it to the real actor. And the irony is never lost on us," Fournell says with a laugh.
The play will be at the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton's Evan Hazell Theatre, which has a big stage and comfy seats.
Fournell says that in order to accommodate a show this big, which also happens to be the biggest show the Dewdney players have done, they needed a space big enough to accommodate things like their two-story set.
