With November just around the corner, the Estevan Public Library (EPL) is set to deliver a series of unique programs that offer something for everyone. Branch Manager Jason Redshaw joined the SUN102 Morning Show to share some of the highlights, from film screenings to workshops with local authors.

The excitment kicks off on November 7 with Appetizers and a Show, a casual movie night featuring the Academy Award-winning film La La Land at 7 p.m. Redshaw described it as “a great musical” that promises a delightful atmosphere with appetizers served throughout the show.

Highlighting local talent, the library will host a Local Author Reading with Anna Lawrence on Saturday, November 16. Lawrence, EPL’s adult coordinator and an award-winning short story writer, has been publishing a short story weekly on her website, Umbrella Stories, since 2022. Her story The Curse of the Draconic earned her a place in the anthology Creatures, Crowns and Curses. During the event, Lawrence will read from her work and share her experience entering the contest that led to this recognition.

For readers, EPL’s Low-Pressure Book Club presents a relaxed option. Unlike a traditional book club, there’s no assigned reading; instead, members are welcome to share whatever they’re currently enjoying. Redshaw explained, “This is a great place to come if you're looking for your next read.” With an informal approach, the club encourages people to swap recommendations and explore new titles together.

Toward the end of the month, EPL and Envision will co-host Death Café on November 27. Aimed at creating a thoughtful and open environment, this gathering invites people to discuss end-of-life topics in a peaceful setting. With coffee, tea, and snacks provided, the session will be led by knowledgeable facilitators, ensuring a respectful approach to this important conversation. Registration is required for this event.

EPL also invites community members to share their feedback on library programs with a new Program Evaluation Form available on their website. Redshaw mentioned that patrons can fill out the form online with a Google account or visit the library in person. “It's a chance to offer feedback on programs or suggest ideas for the future,” he explained, highlighting the library’s commitment to meeting the needs of the Estevan community.
