In a match that electrified the Canadian Premier League, Cavalry FC stormed their way to the Grand Final.
Cavalry FC secured a 1-0 victory over Forge FC on Sunday (Oct. 27). Tobias Warschewski scored the lone goal during the 27th minute of action.
The Foothills-based soccer club has a bye week while awaiting their next opponent.
"We are so excited about this (championship) game. The pick-up here within Calgary, and even Canada, I would say has been huge," said Mason Trafford, a former captain for the Cavalry FC and now current commercial director for the team.
Atlético Ottawa will now face Forge FC on Sunday at 2 p.m. The winner of that game will play the local squad in the final at ATCO Field on Nov. 9.
"[Tickets] really every minute have been flying off the shelves. So it's cool to see how much the people of our communities have gravitated towards the sport and our club."
The finals appearance is extra special for Trafford, who decided to hang up his cleats in 2022 and has followed the sport since he was a kid growing up in North Vancouver.
"The show that we and the league have planned out for the weekend, starting with community visits, mall visits, and supporters night all culminating in a match day, it's going to be a really fun weekend," he added.
Forge FC are the reigning champions as they beat Cavalry last year in extra time, 2-1. Nearly 14,000 fans attended the match.
There will be a FanFest before the game with family fun, food, drinks and live music from local bands and Juno-nominated artist, LU KALA.
