Margaret Mary Gebauer
September 25, 1937 – October 28, 2024
The death of Margaret Mary (nee Pomedli) Gebauer of the Pilger district, SK, occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on Monday, October 28, 2024. She was 87 years of age. Margaret was born to Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Suecs) Pomedli at home on the family farm north of Pilger. She attended Colorado School in Pilger and walked there every day with Peter and Teresa. In the winter, they took the cutter and Lady pulled them to school. Margaret lived at home until she was 16 when she moved to her uncles and aunts, where she provided childcare and helped in the house. In August 1956, at the age of 18, she met Roman Gebauer at a dance. They fell in love and married on December 27, 1956. They had 50 years together until Roman passed away in 2007. Margaret worked many jobs, including CFS Sagehill Radar Base until it closed. She also worked in Columbia House and Flats in Cudworth, SK, with the special needs for 16 years. Margaret was a lifelong member of TOPS and never missed a TOPS PRD in over 60 years. That was a commitment to the very end. With TOPS she went to International Days in Kentucky and Ottawa. With Colleen, Margaret attended TOPS in Halifax, NS, Rapid City, SD, and Calgary, AB. As well, Margaret was a CWL member for 65 years, and a member of Christian Mothers. A devoted Catholic who was very strong in her faith, she went to church every Friday at Prairie View. Margaret loved to cook and bake. Her biggest joy was her family and her farm. She worked tirelessly gardening and canning preserves. She did craft and bake sales with Colleen all over Bruno, Humboldt, and Cudworth for 30 years. Margaret was well-known for her baking and craftsmanship. Many knitted slippers and crocheted Barbie doll dresses were sold until this spring. Margaret had a deep commitment to her family and her faith. When she and Roman became grandparents, they showered their love on Wesley, Raymond and Loralee. Everything changed when Loralee passed away on March 23, 1996. No one could understand why she was taken so soon. Margaret played cards at the Fellowship Centre in Bruno. She loved the Senior Centre bingo in Bruno and Cudworth. She and Roman went to Las Vegas and saw Elvis Presley and Cher. They went on trips to California to visit her aunts and nephew Alan. Margaret went on a road trip and an Alaskan cruise with Glenn in April of 2024. There was a family reunion every year for the Pomedli and Sucs for the past 15 years. Margaret always made her famous carrot cake. She loved to travel but was happy to come home as her heart was there. Margaret never wanted to leave the farm. She always cared for all the animals – cattle, dogs, and her kittycats. Every day she took a kittycat count. She welcomed most wildlife (except the raccoons) and called them her pets. She never left the farm for very long and continued to live there until the end. Since she was 60, she kept saying that in five years she would move to town but that never happened. Margaret will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by three children: Kevin (Dolores) Gebauer of Bruno; Glenn Gebauer of Aggassiz, BC, Colleen Schedlosky (friend Doug) of Humboldt; grandson Wesley Schedlosky; step-children: Syd Baliski and Akari Mackenzie and grandson Raymond Schedlosky (friend Kim Blair) and her children Kaylee, and Mathew (Laura) and daughter Everest; her in-laws Lawrence Stolz and Maxine Pomedli. She was the last surviving member of the Pomedli siblings. She is also survived by special grandchildren (by choice), Krystal (Chris) Stadnyk and children Matthew and Hailey of Humboldt; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Roman (2007); son Colin (Colleen’s twin) in infancy (1962); granddaughter Loralee (1996); parents Joseph (1979), and Elizabeth (1984); brother Peter (2009); and sister Teresa (2008). The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church, Bruno, on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Pius Shroh. Others taking part were: Dolores Gebauer, crossbearer; Vel Thompson and Brenda Pastor, scripture readers; Vicki Mayer, intentions; Eleanor Kornberger and Vicki Mayer, giftbearers; Jane Strasser and Beatrice Krentz, memorial table attendants; Kevin Gebauer and Glenn Gebauer, story tellers.
