As Airdrie’s Neuron e-scooter season concluded yesterday, riders covered 51,300 kilometres on the city's e-scooters in 2024.
With an average trip distance of 2.52 kilometres and a duration of just over 13 minutes, the e-scooters offered a convenient mode of transportation and recreation for residents and visitors.
According to a recent Neuron survey, over nine out of 10 riders believe the e-scooters have positively impacted Airdrie by improving mobility, reducing congestion, and enhancing air quality. However, some Airdrie residents continue to voice concern over safety, including when the e-scooters are left on sidewalks, which could make it a hazard for those with mobility issues.
The survey also indicated that 52 per cent of e-scooter trips replaced car journeys, while 62 per cent of rides supported local businesses, generating an estimated $1 million in economic impact.
Riders reported using the e-scooters most frequently for leisure, exploring the city, running errands, and commuting to work or school. Notably, the longest recorded trip in Airdrie this season covered 23 kilometres.
"We are pleased to see Neuron e-scooters become an integral part of Airdrie’s transportation network," said Ankush Karwal, General Manager for Neuron in Canada. "Many residents use Neuron e-scooters to explore the city’s destinations, commute, and run daily errands. We look forward to returning in 2025."
Airdrie joins 18 other Canadian cities in Neuron’s network, where riders have logged over 9.5 million kilometres since 2021.
