Schools around Portage la Prairie and surrounding areas were buzzing with excitement yesterday as students from various grades donned their most creative costumes, ranging from beloved characters to spooky themes, all while keeping safety at the forefront of their celebrations.

At École Arthur Meighen, young students showcased their Halloween spirit in a costume parade. Annie a grade 6 student, dressed as Piglet and explained how her costume was a group idea highlighting the fun of celebrating with friends. Annie and three friends coordinated their costumes to create a Winnie the Pooh theme, embodying the joy of friendship and teamwork.

The spirit of Halloween was filling the gymnasium as other students expressed their excitement. Anna, who chose to dress as a witch, shared her plans to go trick-or-treating with friends, looking forward to gathering as much candy as possible.

A lively group of Teletubbies Rylee (Dipsy), Peyton (Lala), Quinn (Po), and Ella (Tinky Winky) shared their plans to trick-or-treat together. They emphasized the importance of safety

"We talked about how it's important to like not go out while it's too dark, and also make sure that cars can see us, and planned out route out." Riley shared.

In a fun twist, students from Grade 7 at Yellowquill School also joined the festivities, with Kylie revealing that her Teletubby costume inspiration came from a friend. Other unique costumes included a chef, a sheriff, and a caution sign, with students eager to celebrate Halloween with family and friends.

Meanwhile, at Oakville daycare the younger kids expressed their excitement. Rowan, dressed as Skye from Paw Patrol, shared plans for trick-or-treating with family.

"I'm going with my mommy and daddy."

Three-year-old Beau also shared his plans

"I'm so excited because my mom and dad and my ruby are going with me trick-or-treating."

Across all schools, the emphasis on safety was clear. Teachers ensuring students understand the importance of staying safe while trick-or-treating, such as using reflective gear and being aware of their surroundings.

As the Halloween came to a close it was clear, the blend of creativity, excitement, and safety awareness made for a fun and memorable celebration for all.
