Q. Why are you running for mayor/council?

A. I am running for council to give a voice to the citizens of Moose Jaw. The community in Moose Jaw is one that is involved and ever-changing. It is important to me that I be a figure that citizens can trust to listen to their concerns and adapt to the needs of the community. I am passionate about the healthy development and growth in Moose Jaw that is only fueled by the citizens.

Q. Do you have experience in public service/community boards/politics? Do you think experience matters one way or another?

A. I enjoy giving back to the community, whether it be coaching minor sports, sitting on boards or volunteering. I have sat on the Moose Jaw Warriors board since 2012. I was a Moose Jaw Police Commissioner from 2019-2023. The Moose Jaw Police Service is the largest recipient of the City of Moose Jaw’s overall budget. It has significantly helped me understand the City’s budget and the task of allocating the budget in a time of rising costs.

Q. What topic/policy issue/incident was the tipping point for you?

A. I do not feel that there has been one singular topic that has been a tipping point for me. I think that there is several topics that have come to my attention that deserve to be addressed. In particular, an important issue that affects everyone is the Safety of our community, ability of all our citizens to have a voice when it relates to our homeless and addressing the rising costs of our taxes both residential and business. I think that these issues affect everyone and the community we live in.

Q. What criticisms do you have, if any, for the politics you've seen over the last two or three years?

A. I think that communication and efficiency needs to be improved. The council in Moose Jaw is a vital part of the community and being able to communicate the different aspects and abilities of the council to the citizens is important to feel heard. Efficiency comes from taking action and I think the citizens of Moose Jaw would like to feel assured that their voices and concerns are being taken into account.

Q. What is your plan to compromise/cooperate with fellow council members to accomplish policy goals?

A. The key strength that I have is that I am a great listener. When you take advantage of the moment to listen to your fellow council members, you can learn a lot. A person may not always be right or have the best information available, but I hold mutual respect and feel that everyone has a voice and opinion. We may not always agree with one another, but quality discussion is the goal and from this, I feel that the council can accomplish great things especially when we have the goal of community at the forefront.

Q. What else do you want voters to know about you?

A. I have a passion to grow and be better every day. I truly care for Moose Jaw as I have grown up, lived, and raised my three kids in the city. I could not ask for a better place to live. I understand the issues that affect our community and like everyone else, want to feel safe, see our city grow, and live the best life we can in a city that holds so much opportunity.

Q. In the interests of transparency, are you coordinating or do you share an association with any other candidates, in any way whatsoever?

A. I have had the pleasure of working with all of the members of the current council. I can say that they have all treated me with respect and have given me so much knowledge. I do not share any associations and am not coordinating with anyone, but I do hope that if I am elected that we can share one goal and that is to move Moose Jaw forward and continue to be the best city in Canada.
