The Portage Terriers extended their season-long win streak to seven games with a 4-0 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals at Stride Place.
The Terriers opened the scoring in the first period while shorthanded. Decker Mujcin sprung Wyatt Dreger on a three-on-one with Scott Cousins, which ended with Mujcin putting away his first of the night. 1-0 after the first period.
Mujcin would add another goal on the powerplay in the second period, the only goal of that frame as well. Mujcin would recieve a pass from Adam Belzil and notch his ninth goal of the season, tying him with Cam Bullinger for the team lead. 2-0 after 40 minutes.
The Terriers shut the Oil Capitals down in the final frame, allowing only six shots on net. Mujcin would put away his hat trick goal in the third period, tapping the puck between the legs of the netminder, scoring his first hat trick in the MJHL.
Scott Cousins added his first of the season, putting a shot to the blocker side of the Virden goalie to make it 4-0, where it would stay.
Goaltender Mitchell Kathler stopped all 21 shots he faced for his league-leading third shutout of the season. Prior to the game, he was acknowledged as the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Terrier Player of the Month.
The Terriers were a perfect 6/6 on the penalty kill while going 1/5 on the powerplay, marking a good night for the special teams.
