What was turning out to be a special night for the High River Flyers tonight (Nov. 10) ended in an unpredictable circumstance in a season filled with whirlwinds for the Flyers.

High River put on a show to start their 2024-2025 HJHL home opener with player introductions, a smoke and light show, and a ceremonial puck drop against the Rocky Rams. It was the first Flyers home game since game four (April 30, 2024) against the Bisons last season.

Unfortunately, tonight, the game would only be played for just over nine minutes, with the Flyers holding a 1-0 lead until an issue with one of the panes of glass around the boards was discovered. The rink staff worked on fixing the issue for a good amount of time and had looked to have fixed the problem, but the High River Fire Department would eventually deem it unsafe.

Details on whether the game is postponed or cancelled will be coming later.

The Flyers weekend isn't over, though, they play their Foothills rivals, the Carstar Okotoks Bisons, tomorrow night at Murray Arena. Okotoks is coming off a "Thrashing" as they beat the Three Hills Thrashers 15-1 tonight. The puck drop for tomorrow's game is set for 8:30 p.m.
