Sam Callahan has been a scoring machine for the Carstar Okotoks Bisons, and tonight (Nov. 1) was no different as he scored five goals in a 15-1 clinic against the Thrashers in Three Hills.
Callahan is now firmly in the lead for most goals in the HJHL with 18; the next closest is a tie between Kyle Woolridge of the Medicine Hat Cubs and Brandon Harnack with the Ponoka Stampeders with 13. Callahan has also positioned himself at number two in the league for most points with 24 after tonight's six-point night. Justin Gyori is at number one with 25 points.
Assistant captain Caden Scott was another standout in the game, with five assists, four of them coming in the second period. The Bisons would also see the return of Seamus Garagan, who played in 32 games for Okotoks last season.
The Herd dominated in shots with 52-21, which has been the norm with head coach Brad Cobb at the helm. Callahan opened the scoring in the first and was followed by goals from Brandon Jarman and Jakob Semeniuk to finish the period up 3-0.
The second period saw Okotoks score a total of nine goals to continue their thrashing of Three Hills. Callahan picked up two goals in the period to complete the hat trick, Jarman would follow suit and add two goals of his own in the period to complete his hat trick. Team captain Jake Snashall was the third player to pot two goals in the period for his second and third goals on the season. Easton Dean, McCallum Bakken, and Semeniuk all found the back of the net each to help the Bisons reach nine goals in the second.
Three Hills broke Connor White's shutout 49 seconds into the third period with a goal from Porter Pennock. The Herd responded with another three goals, two from Callahan and one from Dean.
Nine different Bisons players had multiple points on the night, and 13 players got at least a point. Okotoks will have a fun bus ride home as they completely dominated and will play at home tomorrow. The battle of the HJHL Foothills teams is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Murray Arena against the High River Flyers.
