It came down to a final measurement but Rachel Homan and Team Canada held on to beat Korea 6-5 Saturday night in the final of the 2024 Pan Continental Curling Championship in Lacombe.
Homan tied the game up at 5 in the ninth end and then stole one in the tenth to pull out the victory over the defending champs from South Korea who went home with silver this year. Homan's rink is the first Canadian team to win the tournament in its three-year history.
Team China won the women's bronze medal on Friday with a 7-3 victory over Japan.
On the men's side, Team China defeated Team Japan 6-4 on Saturday afternoon to win gold. Japan claimed the silver, while Team USA defeated Team Canada's Brad Gushue Friday afternoon 10-8 to claim the bronze.
In the B-Division, Team Philippines beat Team Kazakhstan 9-3 Saturday afternoon to win the men's gold. On the women's side, Team Australia picked up the gold with an 11-4 win over Team Jamaica.
The Pan Continental Curling Championships was a qualifier for the world championships being held next March.
Japan, USA, China, and South Korea will join host Canada at the 2025 BKT Tires World Men's Curling Championship in Moose Jaw, Sask.
Canada, Japan, China and the United States will join hosts South Korea at the 2025 LGT World Women’s Championship.
Philippines (men's) and Australia (women's) will move up to the A-Division next season.
