A retired couple from Pansy started a garden in 2023 with hopes of helping the community.
Mel Katchur is behind the two-acre, 'Garden of Eden.'
"We grow veggies for the food banks, the soup kitchens and anybody, and we want to fight hunger."
He says they had a slow start because of all the rain at the beginning of the season.
"We had to plant potatoes several times and same with the corn, but all produce was very good. God looked after us. We had a wonderful harvest, and we also constructed about 500ft of raised beds."
Katchur explains that next year they will do a big plant in the raised beds which will provide even more vegetables but for now, they are focusing on the cleanup process.
"Now we're pretty well finished harvesting and we're cleaning up the garden of plant material like corn and tomatoes and we're also processing a lot of the vegetables and today we're processing making salsa for the general public and to give away."
The Garden of Eden greatly impacts the community and thousands of pounds of produce went to organizations such as Grunthal MCC Thrift Shop, Steinbach Family Resource Centre, Soup's On, Southeast Helping Hands, and Agape House.
"It is a passion. I've got a green thumb, and we have a lot of volunteers. Always looking for volunteers and salary positions. So, if you're interested, give me a shout."
