Q. Why are you running for council?
A. I am running for council because I believe the city needs a change of leadership and I want to see change. I want a council that cares about the future, that's transparent and works for the residents of Moose Jaw.
Q. Do you have experience in public service/community boards/politics?
A. I do have experience in politics and public boards, also I went to university for political science, and it has a large focus on the public service.
Q. Do you think experience matters one way or another?
A. I believe experience can matter, but what's even more important is approaching the job with an open mind and a willingness to work with the power available.
Q. What topic/policy issue/incident was the tipping point for you?
A. The tipping point for me was the crumbling infrastructure and lack of movement on important social matters such as affordable housing.
Q. What criticisms do you have, if any, for the politics you've seen over the last two or three years?
A. As mentioned previously, I don't have experience with city politics, so I am hesitant to criticize. If anything, I believe the old council and mayor may have run out of energy and excitement for doing their job. Council kind of chased its tail and then suddenly before elections road repairs happened.
Q. What is your plan to compromise/cooperate with fellow council members to accomplish policy goals?
A. I believe teamwork is essential to making the city better, the path to that teamwork is open and honest communication between the councillors. No group will always agree but you just have to find that middle ground because we are there to work for the residents.
Q. What else do you want voters to know about you?
A. I grew up with parents who worked hard but couldn't get ahead. So, I learned the value of a dollar with the difference between a need and want. I want to make Moose Jaw grow, have opportunities for all while having financial responsibility to control affordability issues.
Q. In the interests of transparency, are you coordinating or do you share an association with any other candidates, in any way whatsoever?
A. No I'm not, my campaign is independent, but I have spoken to some of the other candidates, and I look forward to working with them on council.
