Best-selling author and speaker Dr. Gordon Neufeld is coming to Manitoba in hopes of helping parents flourish.

"The keynote speaker is Dr. Gordon Neufeld, a developmental psychologist from Vancouver, BC," says Terry Warburton, Clinical Director of Recovery of Hope. "He's internationally known. He's spent his life connecting the dots of attachment and developmental theory, and has put it together in a way that's very accessible to the rest of us that don't want to study all that, but we do want to make sense of it."

Recovery of Hope is hosting the event, 'What's Happening with our Kids?,' and it is open to all people raising children. It'll be held at the Franco-Manitobain Cultural Centre in Winnipeg on Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m.

"A lot of parents and caregivers are struggling with supporting their kids," says Warburton. "A big part of our mission is to support people and families in a variety of ways, and when this opportunity came up, we wanted to take advantage of having Dr. Gordon Neufeld here in person."

More and more children and teens are struggling with their mental health these days, according to Warburton.

"A lot of our kids are struggling with depression, anxiety, alarm, relationship problems and peer related issues and bullying. Parents are struggling in the relationship with their kids. They want to support their kids, but sometimes kids often don't seem receptive."

Neufeld's book, Hold On to Your Kids: Why Parents Need to Matter More than Peers, will be available for purchase at the event.

"He gets to the root of the issue. He doesn't talk about band-aid, quick fixes. He talks about, how do we get to the root of the issue so that human beings can actually flourish even in the most difficult of situations."
