Local pizza celebration returns

Explore Morden Winkler’s much-anticipated Pizza Week is back, inviting residents to indulge in a range of unique and delicious pizza creations from November 4-9. Hosted by Explore Morden Winkler, Pizza Week showcases local restaurants, inviting them to present creative and flavorful pizzas for locals and visitors alike.

We welcomed Peter Loewen and Karina Bueckert, representatives from Explore Morden Winkler, on-air to discuss this year’s Pizza Week and why it remains such a cherished local event.

Why pizza week?

Peter Loewen shared his enthusiasm: “Pizza is something everyone can get excited about, and it's accessible to most restaurants. Even if a place doesn’t have a pizza oven, they can still participate with sandwich-style options or other creative twists.” Loewen’s passion for this event reflects the community’s excitement and the inclusivity of the food theme, which ensures no restaurant is left out.

Karina Bueckert echoed his sentiments, emphasizing the versatility of pizza and its role in bringing people together. “Pizza is something you can share with your family or your friends,” Bueckert said. “It’s perfect for lunch or dinner and so easy to enjoy. This week, I’ll be ordering it for my staff lunches because it’s convenient and just a fun way to support local spots.”

Exciting flavors on the menu

With over a dozen restaurants participating, this year’s lineup is one for the books. Some of the local favorites are trying innovative ingredients, making it a true culinary adventure. Bueckert shared her excitement about the diverse flavors available this year, saying, “Some of the ethnic restaurants have joined in, which is fantastic! I’m excited about the Chat Masala pizza, and Mulligan’s always comes up with something impressive. But Leparq Pizzeria's pizza with grapes and blue cheese really caught my eye—it’s not something you’d expect!”

It brings people out to enjoy what our area has to offer, and it’s such a fantastic way to build community pride.”

Bueckert added, “Everyone in the community has the chance to come together over something we all love—pizza! It’s a simple concept, but it means so much more when it’s local and shared with friends and family.”
