At the latest Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustee meeting, the board decided where to allocate funding they received from the provincial government back in July.

"The approved spending plan includes additional supports to help schools transition new students with complex needs into their school culture; enhancements to our IT infrastructure; and resources and technology for schools to support a smooth transition for the student accommodation changes in Airdrie beginning September 2025," stated RVS in "The Brief".

As part of the fall budget update, the remaining funds will be allocated to the instruction contingency.

"Additional funds generated through September 30 counts of English as an Additional Language and Indigenous students will be sent directly to schools for extra support."

Last week, The Board of Trustees approved the request for 27 modular classrooms from the province. Modular classrooms are essential to RVS planning for student spaces as a developing school division. Each fall, RVS and other school divisions in Alberta make a request to Alberta Education for these temporary classrooms.

This year, the RVS Board of Trustees has asked for the relocation of one restroom unit and 27 new modular classrooms to schools that most need the space: six in Chestermere (together with the relocation of a restroom unit), seven in Cochrane, eight in Airdrie, and six in Crossfield. RVS has received money from Alberta Education for 30 new modular units and 20 relocated modular units since 2023.

In the spring, RVS expects to receive a letter from Alberta Education confirming that the proposed modulars have been approved.

Also, at the latest meeting, The Board approved the Terms of Reference to create an ad hoc Superintendent Search Committee to support the recruitment process.

Back at the beginning of October, superintendent of RVS Greg Luterbach announced he would be retiring at the end of August 2025.

Since re-joining RVS in 2016, Superintendent Luterbach has led the division’s growing team of over 3,000 staff, maintaining a steadfast focus on providing the best possible learning experience for RVS students, stated an RVS press release.
