Twenty of the 24 candidates running for city council took part in a candidates forum put on by the Kinsmen Club on Monday night at the Centennial Auditorium in Peacock Collegiate.

Moderated by Lyle Johnson, the evening began with each candidate being given three minutes to introduce themselves and lay out their platform. 

Following the opening remarks, the candidates took questions from the audience. Some of the topics that were asked about included: 

  • Homelessness and shelters 
  • Taxation 
  • Multiculturalism and diversity 
  • Street conditions 
  • The Agrifood Industrial Park 
  • Engaging with residents 
  • Priority of youth 
  • Public safety 
  • Outside influences on decisions 
  • Size of council and term limits 
  • SAMA 

The candidates are vying for the six spots around the council table. 

Residents are reminded that there are advance polls on Tuesday and Thursday this week from noon to 6 p.m. at the Golden Nugget Centre on the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds. 

Election day is Nov. 13. Polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. There are polling stations at the Moose Jaw Golden Nugget Centre, the Cosmo Senior Centre, Minto United Church and Church of Our Lady.
