Herbert Mayor, Ron Mathies, is running for the position of mayor again, if re-elected, this will be his third term in office.
The former farmer and business owner has been mayor for the past eight years and hopes to continue building up and improving the town he loves.
In addition to farming and growing up in Herbert, Mathies previously owned a successful Ford dealership, coached sports, and has sat on a plethora of boards including sitting on the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation and serving as a councillor for the Rural Municipality of Excelsior.
"I've worked very hard along with the council and the administration, we've accomplished an awful lot in the town," said the two-term-mayor. "Everything needs attention, everything needs rebuilding,
"We were able to spend about $3.25 million in the last eight years fixing things, and one of the first things we fixed was the water."
The incumbent mayor noted a few areas he'd like to focus on as optimal governance, maintenance, and moving the town into a new age.
"We have so many children and kids in the community and then we have the older people, a lot of them are walking across the streets," Mathies explained. "We need to slow our traffic down, that is a big thing, and we're trying to do a few things to do that."
