One week remains until the final day of voting for the Municipal election in Humboldt.

Larry Jorgenson is one of ten candidates vying for the six counicllor positions on the City Council.

A resident of the community for 30 years, Jorgenson has spent time with Bay Trail Steel, Del Air Systems, PAMI (Prairie Agriculture Machinery Institute) and is currently employed as a Production Manager for Croptimistic Technology Inc. (SWAT MAPS) in Humboldt and is a Mechanical Engineer.

Along with his wife Kamiee, they have raised two children, twin daughters, Shelby and Ashley, who run a home-based bakery, Twin Treats.

Jorgenson will be seeking his fourth term as councillor after being first elected in 2012 and reelected in 2016 and 2020.

After being involved with leadership teams at different stages of his life, Jorgenson says he wants to be a part of the answer to the future of the community.

“I’m just the kind of guy where I would rather be a part of the solution then one of the guys on the outside complaining about the decisions other people are making.”

Humboldt is a city that’s expecting a significant amount of growth soon with developing projects like the BHP Mine in Jansen. Jorgenson says with a delayed start to the mine, it allowed the city council to create ideas to accommodate the growth in Humboldt.

“We’ve done a lot of planning, we have a lot of plans in place to manage the growth.”

He pointed to getting the government grant for the lagoon in place as a piece of infrastructure in place to handle the growth.

Jorgenson noted the importance of working with developers to create additional housing that’s needed for Humboldt’s population increase.

During his time on council, Jorgenson says the city has an item called asset management that has an inventory of all the roads and the underground pipes that indicates their condition and shows at the time repairs are needed.

Ideally, Jorgenson said the council would like to pave all the roads as soon as possible, but due to costs, that goal isn’t attainable. Instead, they’re forced to prioritize which roads should be completed, adding that every year that a couple of blocks within the city have been completed.

A couple of additional projects that Jorgenson would like to see some progress in are a new villa and a theatre, noting that it’s been a void in Humboldt since 2012.
