An 18-year-old man is in custody after a delivery person was carjacked while dropping off a package in Elmwood.

Winnipeg police say the incident happened just before 1:30 pm. in the 500 block of Harbison Avenue.

Investigators say a 22-year-old man was dropping off a parcel when he was hit with bear spray and robbed of his vehicle. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service treated the victim at the scene.

Shortly after the incident, several Winnipeggers reported a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle driving erratically in the area. Officers quickly located the car in the back lane near Bowman Avenue East and Watt Street.

After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested an 18-year-old man without incident.

He is facing a long list of charges including robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and failure to comply with a probation order.

He remains in custody.

This is the fourth carjacking to take place in Winnipeg in just under two weeks. It is unclear if all of the incidents are related.

The investigation is ongoing.
