The Estevan Curling Club is eagerly awaiting the outcome of its bid to host the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, as community support and excitement build around the possibility of bringing the national championship to the city.
Club president Tyler McMillan shared updates on the bid process and the local support driving it.
The club submitted its application at the end of September, and McMillan said they are now in the waiting phase. "It’s a competitive process, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed," he said. Estevan has previously hosted provincial events, building a strong volunteer base and local interest in the sport.
“Our committee members have been active in this bid, and there’s been a lot of positive feedback from the community,” McMillan noted. “People are curious about how the bid is going, and it creates a buzz around curling in the city.”
Tourism Saskatchewan provided valuable support in preparing the bid package, which McMillan believes is competitive. He emphasized the significance of potentially bringing the Scotties to Estevan, saying, “It would be incredible for our community to host a championship recognized across Canada and even the world.”
As anticipation builds, the Estevan Curling Club continues to foster enthusiasm for curling locally, hoping that hosting the Scotties would further raise the sport’s profile in the region.
