A group of Lake Lenore residents and students made a trek into the Saskatoon STARS Headquarters to make a special donation following a fundraising evening on October 18 at Jubilee Hall in Humboldt.

The fundraiser was organized and hosted by Lakeview Insurance. Around 260 people attended enjoying a wonderful meal catered by Johnny’s Bistro along with an entertainment package of a silent auction and 50/50 tickets. Local businesses donated everything from Saskatoon Blades tickets to a Pit Boss smoker provided by GBC. Along with donations at the door, the evening raised an impressive $8100.

The cheque was presented at the STARS Hangar on Tuesday, October 5, explains Eric Yeager with Lakeview Insurance. Yeager was surrounded by a group of STARS well-wishers when the cheque was handed over.

“A couple of years ago, the local schools were trying to get a tour of the STARS facility, but they weren’t able to due to Covid. So, on October 18, STARS sent out two representatives for a presentation and show at our evening. They said if you’re ever interested in a tour, let us know, and I said how about the local high school.”

As a result, students, parents and staff from Lake Lenore School travelled into the STARS facility on November 5 for the cheque presentation and a long-awaited tour. A tour is planned for Muenster School as well in the coming days.

“STARS is a crucial service in our province with us being so spread out,” Yeager says. “STARS is very important so that’s why we decided to team up with them this year.”

Thanks to Lakeview Insurance and everyone who participated in the fundraising event to help keep STARTS in the air on its ongoing mission.
