Even though the majority of them are currently running for re-election, Swift Current city council is not completely free of work obligations.

The City of Swift Current has suspended regular council meetings until after the election is over. Once council has been voted in and sworn into office, meetings can resume on Nov. 25, 2024.

However, during the weeks between the start and end of the election, policy is in place to ensure the smooth operation of the City of Swift Current.

Jackie Schlamp, city clerk and returning officer for the City of Swift Current, is ready to help get city council organized in the case of an emergency special council meeting.

"As an administration, we plan ahead, making sure that anything that is of dire importance is on our council agenda before council breaks for the election preparations and procedures," said Schlamp. "What happens is everything hits the docket prior to election break.  Should something come up that needs to be dealt with and that requires council's approval, we have the ability to call a special meeting."

By keeping council's schedules clear, it allows the individuals seeking re-election to focus on their campaigns.

Normally, the Mayor would also be absent from regular duties during the election. However, with Al Bridal being acclaimed, he is already back in the office working like normal.

"But it is very quiet, like I said," said Schlamp. "There's not much going on, so he's in and out of the office on a daily basis."

Election day in Swift Current is Nov. 13, 2024. Polling stations will be listed on the City of Swift Current Website.
