A huge $50,000 from the Cochrane Activettes was more than a shot in the arm for the Big Hill Lodge. It's put them on the cusp of completing the fundraising for a new activities bus.
The Bill Hill Lodge kicked off its Keep the Wheels Rolling fundraising campaign last September with the target of raising $180,000 to replace their aging bus that plays an important role for their residents.
"It's just so close, so, so, so close," says Big Hill Lodge manager Sandra Robin.
"It's massive. To get a donation of this size is absolutely amazing for us. It means an awful lot. We've been fundraising for this bus for well over a year and our community has been amazing, businesses have been amazing, but this donation from the Cochrane Activettes has just put the star on top of this Christmas tree for us this."
Activettes president Sue Lunnin and vice-president Marcia Gilbertson explains the Activettes ways and means committee had already decided to provide the donation but were waiting for the right time to present it.
"The Big Hill Lodge has been fundraising for the last year or so regarding purchasing a new bus for their seniors and the Activettes donated this amount to keeping the wheels rolling," says Lunnin. "We're quite excited to help them out and it's another way that our Activettes ways and means committee is working in our community."

Playing a huge role in the many ways the Activettes support our community is their Clotheline store on 4th Ave. They sell gently used clothes at an affordable price, thanks to generous donations from the community and dedicated crew of volunteers.
Gilbertson says they are deep into the giving season with donations like this and their upcoming Share Your Christmas hamper campaign.
"Our Share Your Christmas campaign is kicking off next week and we'll helping out those less fortunate in the community with Christmas Hampers," says Gilbertson.
