One of the Swift Current Broncos' more successful special jerseys is returning from the depths of Lake Diefenbaker next month for the third straight year.

The Broncos will morph into the highly popular Lake Diefenbaker Slough Sharks three days after Christmas (on December 28) when they play East Division rival Prince Albert Raiders.

Broncos forward Brady Birnie is one of eight current players who's been around since the Slough Sharks' inception in February of 2023.

"I think it's good for the community, everyone kind of gets around it," he said. "You see all the hoodies, t-shirts, and hats around. It's good for us players to wear those, something a little different than what we usually wear."

Two seasons ago the Broncos allowed their fanbase to select the re-branding theme - the Lake Diefenbaker Slough Sharks won the fan voting convincingly. Merchandise has sold out quickly for the last two seasons and will be on sale beginning Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Stable.

"We found out the news about it on social media just like everybody else did and we're excited," he said. "I was down in the Stable the other day and the merchandise was getting made."

Last season the limited edition merchandise brought in nearly $30,000 and had almost 2,300 fans attend the game.
