Calgary police are seeking public assistance after a targeted shooting in northwest Calgary, which they believe led to a vehicle fire later discovered near Highway 566, southwest of Airdrie.
The shooting occurred around 9:30 last night in the 200 block of Nolan Hill Drive Northwest. Police were called for reports that two men had been shot.
"The men transported themselves to hospital before police arrival and the suspects fled in a white Mazda SUV," police stated in a news release.
Investigators believe that this was a planned and targeted shooting and the offenders were waiting for the victims to arrive at the location prior to the incident, but they are still working to determine suspect descriptions.
A short time after the shooting, police located the white Mazda on fire north of the city limits, in the area of Highway 566 and Panorama Road.
"Investigators from our Arson Team and Forensic Crime Scenes Unit continue to process evidence collected from this scene."
Calgary police are urging witnesses to come forward in an early-stage investigation, emphasizing the crucial role of community support in solving cases and ensuring public safety.
"In investigations like this, we rely on community support to help us progress investigations, hold offenders accountable, and ensure that our communities remain safe for everyone," said Staff Sergeant Ben Lawson of the CPS Organized Crime Operations Unit.
Calgary Police emphasized their commitment to tackling organized crime and protecting public safety, despite the challenges posed by witness reluctance and attempts to destroy evidence.
Anyone with information on the shooting or suspicious activity near the Highway 566 fire is asked to contact Calgary Police at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
