Cochrane has never seen anything like what's in store at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre this weekend.
Cochrane Music Mojo Rising is taking over the centre for two days of rock, pop, country, metal, alt, blues, hip hop, eastern--you name it--on Nov. 9 and 10.
Presented by the Canadian Society for Performing Arts (CSPA) this free all-genre music event kicks off both days at 1 p.m. and the music keeps rolling until around 11:30 p.m.
"They'll be bands, they'll be solo artists, they'll be dancers, and they'll keep coming one after another," says CSPA president Bobby Jacobs, a Cochrane resident.
He rattles off a list of just some of the performers.
Frontline, Wild Rose, BlackSnake Rising, Scratchy Dave Band, Speaking of Freaks, Flying Blues, May Contain Alcohol, Rocky Mountain Maniacs, Buffalo Bud Busters, Identity Crisis...
There are performers from India, Romania, Vietnam, U of C, soloists, bands, dancers...
Mojo Rising is about giving artist an opportunity to perform live music in a venue with top notch sound and lighting equipment.
"There are a lot of very skilled talents in Alberta, but I don't think all these artists are getting that much exposure or a place to perform," says Jacobs.
"Here we are providing that opportunity. We are providing a 200 square foot LED wall, and top of the line systems and lighting."
CSPA treasurer Preethy Thomas says the weekend is the result of extensive brainstorming and it's going to be magical.
"We are offering this amazing weekend for people to come enjoy with their friends and loved ones and see multiple bands and musicians all in one place. And the best part about that is the great cause that we're supporting, which is the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter."
Entry is by donation, and all of it will go to help provide women emergency shelter because the cost of staging the event is being covered by some generous sponsors. Donations to the emergency shelter can also be e-transferred to info@cspacanada.ca.
A variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase. There's also a photo booth.
