Airdrie City Council will begin its 2025 Budget Deliberation meetings on Wednesday next week, with subsequent meetings on Friday and possibly another on November 18.
According to the agenda, the Airdrie Housing Limited, Airdrie Public Library, and Airdrie Mainstreet Square Budget will be presented to the council, with deliberations to follow. Several city branches' respective directors will also be presenting.
The City has noted previously that this year's proposed budget is meant to focus on sustaining and enhancing city services to match community growth and inflation. The proposal outlines a 7.5 per cent tax adjustment to raise $6.2 million, balancing the budget - this tax increase is only a starting point for council deliberations and may be amended. The city's website has highlighted and broken down service areas, which include:
- Community Safety and social services: $48/month per household for fire response, law enforcement (including one new RCMP officer), emergency management, affordable housing, and social programs.
- Community infrastructure: $30/month for pathway and park maintenance, snow and ice control, street cleaning, traffic management, and land and natural area conservation.
- Community services: $9/month for recreation access (Genesis Place, arenas, outdoor fields), arts programs, and community events.
- Strategic growth and investment: $7/month for public transit improvements, economic development, and downtown enhancement.
- Internal support services: $25/month for city leadership, fund management, public protection, and strategic operations.
- Capital investment: $94/month for infrastructure projects, including facility upgrades, roadway improvements, playground replacements, and a new multi-use facility and library, among other long-term capital projects.
After deliberations, the Council will approve the final 2025 Operating and Capital Budgets.
