Residents of Heritage Pointe are being asked to keep a watchful eye out after some recent cougar sightings.

Late last week, the Heritage Pointe Golf Club shared a trail cam picture of a cougar taken in the community on Friday morning.

They notified Alberta Fish and Wildlife of the sighting and reminded locals to remain vigilant and not to leave pets or children unattended.

Then on Monday (Nov. 4), the Lake at Heritage Pointe Owners' Association shared footage of a cougar taken by a resident in the Heritage Lake Terrace area.

It prompted another safety message and a reminder that the town's proximity to a wildlife corridor means these kinds of sightings aren't uncommon.

The Province of Alberta website includes information on cougar behaviour and tips to avoid encounters.

Cougar sightings can be reported to Alberta Fish and Wildlife.
