Local SaskTel workers are the force behind this years SaskTel TeleCare donations.
Eight none profits are bennitting from the generosity of the workers who have signed on with the program, which takes a small part of their paycheques to be added to the program. In total, TeleCare gave out close to $7,500 this year.
This year, SaskAbilities, the Swift Current SPCA, Salvation Army, and the Alzheimer's Society were among the recipients. The remaining four donations went to local school's lunch programs, such as the one at O.M. Irwin.
Lisa Bowers, a sales representative at SaskTel is a committee member for the TeleCare program. For her, the giving back to the community is the best part for all the good it brings.
"We're very happy and we actually increased our TeleCare donations by 45 per cent with new TeleCare members,," said Bowers. "So the organization is growing and we're hoping to keep donating more and more every year."
Individually, each group recieved $956.25. Each of them has allocated the money where it will help them the most. For the Salvation Army, that means the cash will help them put together their Christmas Food Hampers. The SPCA will be using their portion to buy food and goods for the shelter animals, while the money at SaskAbilities will help with funding their programming.
By incentivizing SaskTel employees to join the program, Bowers is hoping to continue doing good in the community. All the money that employyee contribute goes towards local causes. They also always try tomake sure to include schools in the donation list.
"It has to be a local organization," said Bowers. "They have to provide their financials, and we make sure it is a non-profit. They just have to fill out this application, which generally states like what their general plan of what the funds are going to be used for."
