The Cochrane RCMP Detachment had another busy month in October, responding to a total of 519 calls for service.
According to local law enforcement, mischief remained the most frequent type of incident, accounting for 35 calls.
Mischief, which encompasses a wide range of activities from property damage to interference with lawful property use, has consistently been a top concern in the community.
Despite the high number of mischief-related incidents, Cochrane RCMP Insp. Dave Brunner expressed optimism about the growing community awareness of suspicious activities with 24 calls last month.
"I'm happy that we're seeing those calls come in, not that there's suspicious activity going on, but people are realizing if it's suspicious, call it in and some of those calls have led to recovered stolen vehicles and the whole gamut of things."
Mental health-related calls were another significant part of October’s statistics, with 23 calls for service. Brunner noted that many of these were linked to well-being checks and instances of family or domestic violence
"Mental health goes hand in hand with some of the domestic violence and family violence issues and well-being checks. People with mental health issues tend to not answer their phone and don't do their regular routine, and family members become concerned and they call us for these checks and we intervene quite regularly and use our RPACT (Regional Police and Crisis Team) to help these people."
