A town in Southern Alberta was the warmest place in Canada yesterday (Nov. 7).
Environment and Climate Change Canada Scientist Christy Climenhaga says that according to their records, not only were there numerous weather records broken yesterday in Alberta, Claresholm was the warmest place in the country.
"So, very, very mild temperatures. In fact, some record-breaking temperatures in many areas of Alberta, including the Edmonton area," Climenhaga says.
While Claresholm got up to 19 degrees, it wasn't the hottest temperatures the town has experienced in November.
Back in 1999, Claresholm got up to 22 degrees on November 7, which is still the record for the Town.
According to Climenhaga, there were a number of temperature records for November 7 set in 1999.
In comparison, the Town of Claresholm was sitting around 9 degrees on November 7, 2023.
"Daily highs in much of Alberta should be closer to that 1 or 2 degree high, kind of low single digits," Climenhaga says. "The temperatures that we're seeing in Alberta this week are, definitely, a good ten to fifteen degrees above what we would normally see for a daily high."
The Claresholm area is expected to see a bit of a mixed bag of weather this weekend.
On Saturday, Claresholm is anticipated to get up to 6 degrees, which will then shift towards more typical temperatures for this time of year.
While Claresholm was the warmest place in Canada, all of the records that were broken were north of Calgary.
