Locally, it's hard to find a business with more passion poured into it than Nightjar Diner Co.
Shaun Hanna, the business owner at Nightjar, has had his and his team's passion recognized recently after being awarded the SCBEX 2024 Medium Business Award. Through every plate served and every craving met, they have continued to grow over the last six years as a staple of Swift Current's culinary credits.
For Hanna, the win points to the growth and success they have had over the last year.
"We've brought a lot of attention to Swift Current and the southwest as a food destination," said Hanna. "More than half of our clientele in the summertime are people just travelling through that have decided to stop and turn off the highway to come downtown and check us out.
"Hopefully they have a chance to check out the rest of the wonderful business community down downtown."
Hanna highlighted how many of their dishes are staple favourites for people whether you would like a steamed dumpling with an eastern flare, or a southern U.S staple like chicken and waffles.
While the food is great, the people are the real treat.
"We are open and hospitable," said Hanna. "Those are the characteristics that I find great about living in Swift Current - open, hospitable and available for people."
For Hanna, this SCBEX award is inspiring him to continue the journey at Nightjar. With a menu that changes twice a year, and plenty of micro changes throughout other stages of the seasons, he and the team are pushing the envelope ever further.
"We never like resting on our laurels," said Hanna. "We like to bring new things to the community. We like it when people step outside of their comfort zone just a little bit. We're not going to go too crazy, but just a little bit and they're always surprised with another wonderful flavour that we're able to present."
