Original Joe's is loved by many as a hangout, eatery, and recently a music venue, but few love it like those who work there.
Original Joe's was this year's winner of the Employer of the Year Award at the SCBEX. Being nominated by an employee for this award means that the culture and camaraderie found within has reached a level only a few get to enjoy in their nine-to-five.
Winning the award means that employee happiness and fulfilment are visible to those on the outside looking in.
For Tyler Wallin, owner of Original Joe's as of just this last year, it's proof that he is doing his job well.
"The secret sauce for our recipe for happy employees would be that we always put our employees first," said Wallin. "We do everything that we do to make sure that we look after their needs, whether it be giving them the time off that they need or just being there for them if they have some issues.
"We try to look out for their best interests the best we can because we know that a happy employee is going to be a great employee and this can be a more long-term job for them."
Wallin himself has worked at the Swift Current location since 2012. Over that time, he has gone on to not only manage the business but own it. He has a deep understanding of how important good management is, and how crucial employee happiness is in the service industry. The happiness of his customers is a natural result of his team being eager and willing to do their best each and every day.
"We've always had the same mindset of looking after our guests, making sure that we're giving them the best quality products, the best service, and the best environment that we can," said Wallin. "Making sure that we look after our team in that same way, and providing them with a great environment to work in and looking out for their best interests as well."
The plan is to continue making both customers and employees happy. The winning recipe being cooked up by Original Joe's has no shortage of ingredients, with no plans to come off the menu either.
"We're going to continue to look for and to add to the way we do business here," said Wallin.
