The Swift Current Salvation Army is now taking interviews for their annual Christmas Hampers.
Families who need a little more help during the holidays are being encouraged to stop by and speak with the Salvation Army about qualifying for a hamper. The Christmas kits come equipped with food and toys to help feed everyone and make sure that children have something to open on Christmas Day.
Ian Scott, the officer for the Swift Current Salvation Army, is hopeful that they can make this year's celebrations that much brighter.
"In every community there's need," said Scott. "We're just trying to make sure that we are giving hope to people that may otherwise not feel that support is there."
Christmas Hampers are for lower-income households. Those applying with children should bring proof of the children's age, in the form of a birth certificate or other valid identification.
"We get their information from them then we set up a date and time for them to come and get their food and/or toys," said Scott.
The Salvation Army offices and church are located on First Avenue Northwest. That is where they will be conducting the interviews.
The purpose of the interviews is to direct these care packages to where they will do the most good.
"We are just starting the process of applications and just want to make sure everybody knows what to do," said Scott.
Interviews began yesterday and will be open today from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, they will be available from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday will be the final day for the interviews, again open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
