Whether he knew it or not, today was Cairo's day to shine at the Cochrane RCMP detachment for sniffing out 68 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of up to $6.8 million.

"These drugs are no longer available for organized crime to bring to our communities to hurt Albertans," said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull of the Alberta RCMP Traffic Unit, pointing to the 4' x 8' table filled with the controlled substance, calling it an extremely significant drug seizure.

Ranjit Singh Sekhon, 36, of Edmonton has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and six different firearms charges related to the 9mm loaded gun found inside the pickup truck with the drugs.

On Oct. 23, the lone occupant of the vehicle was pulled over for a traffic stop near Hinton, AB. heading westbound on Hwy. 16. The RCP officer suspected illegal drugs were being shipped and detained the driver for a drug investigation.

Cairo was deployed to sniff around the vehicle and confirmed the odor of drugs. Sekhon was arrested, and the vehicle search to reveal the giant cache of cocaine.
