For anyone looking at their Christmas shopping list, wondering what to get those people who have everything, the Weyburn Theatre Community Service Cooperative has just the ticket.
They'll be selling Limited Edition Christmas Tree Ornaments tomorrow at the Gifted Winter Art Market, being held at the Spark Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A fundraiser for the future Spark Cinema, the wooden commemorative ornaments feature a representation of the Soo Theatre's iconic marquis.
"We reached out to an artist who could design these Christmas ornaments for us," shared Ryan Janke with the WTCSC. "They're obviously based on the old Soo Theatre sign, and we were so blown away with how amazing they look. They look fantastic hanging on trees or really any place you want to put them."
He said having them at the Gifted market will not only serve as a fundraiser but as a conversation starter.
"And also as just a memento for the theatre that served our community for 70 years, that we all miss."
Janke said the Gifted event has, "the same community spirit that is really the genesis of the whole theatre project. So it feels very appropriate that we're going to be there."
While he said he's uncertain if they'll sell out of the ornaments during the Gifted sale, he advises anyone eager to arrive early to secure theirs.
"These are limited edition. It's a one-time thing. So I mean, we like to think of them as sort of a collectors item because it's there's only so many of them and they're never going to be made again."
"They're something that I just want to put into my Christmas box and take out every year when you're doing the tree to see that little memento of the Soo."
The handmade wooden ornaments will sell for $35.
"We are hoping to have a sort of a clapper board version of the Spark Cinema logo as maybe a slightly lower cost option, too, and I don't know how many," he shared.
Janke said there is still a little way to go with fundraising for the new theatre.
"We have lots of sponsorship opportunities over and above seats and stars. Do check out our website, Weyburntheatre.com, and reach out to us and we'll see what we can work out."
