After some recent turmoil, Shaunavon is turning the page with a new mayor and six new councillors.
"If you see something that you can help on it," said new Shaunavon Mayor Cal Vance. "You just get out and do it."
Vance beat Drew Grainger by 66 votes to become mayor.
"I'm honored and humbled," he said. "I've lived here now for 10 years and... I was probably 3 months of being there it just felt like my little town that I grew up in. So it's just nice to have all that support.
"It's my first time doing anything like this, so it's going to be a learning curve, but I'm very honored to have that many people put their faith in me."
After recent council resignations and investigations, Vance believes a fresh start begins with two ears.
"Just do a lot of listening to start with," he said. "I'm extremely happy to see the amount of experience that got voted in on council. I think that's going to go a long way to help just heal the town.
"I think it's just going to take a lot of collaborative effort from everyone just to sit around and just let the ideas flow."
Vance noted he has reached out to some of the new councillors with experience to let them know he'll be leaning on their expertise.
The new council includes Pamela Lynn Bahnuick, Darren Johnston, Sharon Dickie, Rhonda Bellefeuille, Alain Tetrault and Lisa Schmit.
Vance has been the president of Shaunavon's Chamber of Commerce for two years and works in the energy sector for Veren.
