The Gates on Roblin was filled with hope on Thursday night as approximately 100 supporters gathered for the Lighthouse Mission fundraiser dinner.
The event celebrated the mission’s transformative work in Winnipeg and offered an exciting glimpse into its future plans, including the renovation of a heritage building on Main Street to introduce 10 new detox beds.
Executive Director Peter McMullen spoke passionately about the critical need for detox facilities in Winnipeg. The beds will serve as the foundation of a holistic recovery program that addresses physical, psychological, and spiritual needs.
McMullen emphasized that detox is just the first step toward long-term recovery, with partnerships in place to ensure individuals can seamlessly transition into extended care programs.
CHVN’s Mike Thom hosted the evening, using his platform to inspire generosity. In a Facebook post after the event, he highlighted the mission’s ambitious goals.
"They are doing amazing things in Winnipeg, including bringing 10 new recovery-based detox beds to the downtown. This means not just detox, but holistic recovery approaches and post-detox support… Amazing things are happening."
Both Thom and McMullen shared their personal experiences of coming out of addiction and their first-hand knowledge of the need for access to detox beds.
The evening also featured music by Preston Tanghe, a graduate of Adult & Teen Challenge who uses his music and time to minister to people in downtown Winnipeg.
Attendees left inspired by the mission’s dedication to uplifting those battling addiction and were encouraged to continue their support through donations.
Lighthouse Mission’s renovation project is a bold step forward in addressing the city’s addiction crisis. The addition of detox beds will significantly enhance the mission’s ability to provide immediate, life-changing care for individuals in crisis.
The project also reinforces the organization’s holistic approach to recovery, focusing not only on physical detox but on providing psychological and spiritual support.
