The Northlands Parkway Nighthawks junior varsity girls volleyball team brought the South Central Athletic Conference finalist banner from Winnipeg back home to Winkler on Thursday night.
The Nighthawks fell in three sets to the Olympiens in the SCAC AAAA championship game at College Jeanne-Sauve.
The Olympiens swept NPC 25-12, 25-15, 25-20 in the final.
Northlands Parkway coach Al Yeo had to improvise at the middle position Thursday night against a College Jeanne-Sauve team that went 11-1 in league play this season.
Gracie Billing didn't play because of illness and Shayna Driedger left the match early in the first set with a sprained ankle.
The Nighthawks defeated the Glenlawn Lions in the quarterfinals and then rallied from two sets down to beat Steinbach Regional 24-26, 12-25, 25-17, 28-26, 15-13 in the semifinals Tuesday night at the SRSS.
Northlands Parkway will find out Saturday if that win over the Sabres will be good enough to earn a wildcard spot from the MHSAA into the Provincials which begin next Thursday at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate in Winnipeg.
Clayton Dreger asked NPC coach Al Yeo to describe how it feels to be the second best team in the South Central Athletic Conference
